"Classic Who fan loves the new show ""I've been a fan of Doctor Who since I was a kid and discovered Tom Baker's version with the long scarf on Saturday afternoons on PBS. I was crazy about the show all through high school Babylon 5 1-5 dvd box set and into college, but lost touch with it Scrubs seasons 1-9 when it disappeared off the local PBS channel sometime in Colin Baker's run. The 1996 attempt to revive it was a huge disappointment, so my anticipation of the new series was hesitant.However, I was completely won over by Russel T. Davies' version as played by Christopher Eccleston. I worried needlessly about transitioning to David Tennant after only one series, and the show has yet to seriously let me down, other than a few mediocre episodes here and there, but the good and the great far outshine the not-so-great.Series 4 is the first one I've owned outright, simply because for whatever reason complete season Breaking Bad 1-3 it has gone on sale at a deeper discount than the others! I plan to own the others eventually as well because these are great packages with all the episodes complete and uninterrupted (and not cut to fit SyFy/BBCAmerica's time slots with commercials), and lots of extras. I would love to have more episode-by-episode commentary but the extras that are available are quite fun.As for this particular season, I was dismayed at the mention of Catherine Tate as the new companion because I didn't like the Runaway The Golden Girls seasons 1-7 Bride episode much and she didn't do much but scream and yell. Had enough of those sorts of companions over the years. But she definitely grows CSI New York dvd season 1-6 on me in this series, and the lack of romantic mooning on the part of either character was a nice change of pace (despite the fact that I enjoy the "shipping" of the characters as well). "Same great series..... ""I'll admit, I was NEVER a fan of the original Dr Who series. I thought it had some great ideas, but such poor production value (and horrible acting) that it was hard to sit through. What I love about this new show is how Russell Davies has been able to keep the same great ideas from the original (as to please old fans) and push the special effects through the roof (to make it MUCH more watchable for the casual viewer like myself)! Oh sure it's got it's silly moments...okay sometimes OZ dvd season 1-6 purchase VERY silly moments but I think that was done to make it more accessible to younger viewers and they never seem to get in the way of the great story telling.Also what's terrific is the casting choices. David Tennant makes the Doctor character classic from his first episode (I'd go out on a limb and say it's OZ season 1-6 like Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones!), and every companion is instantly likeable from Rose to Martha to Donna.Now, after three seasons of greatness comes this fourth season. If you're a Dr Who fan, purchasing this DVD is a MUST. It again has The Golden Girls dvd set 1-7 everything that makes the series great and seems to add some more physical action this time around. If you havent seen the show yet, obviously you have to start with season one (2005). As I said before this season has the same great elements as the previous ones (and I love Catherine Tate as the Doctor's new companion), but I have to admit things seemed a bit more typical and by the book this time around. This isn't neccessarily a bad thing but after the last three seasons, each topping the one before it, I thought that season 4 felt a bit more redundant. It just didn't WOW me like it did in seasons 1-3 (though they did set the bar pretty high).
